Silver Microphone Awards Arc[]
Later, he left Central TV to work for Beijing Television Station, where he invited Zhang Ye to join him. He required Zhang Ye to win the Silver Microphone Awards in order to make it easier for him to recommend a rookie like Zhang Ye.[2]
Quit Smoking PSA Arc[]
After Zhang Ye was suspended from Peking University, Hu Fei called Zhang Ye to check on his situation and to tell him that he was transferred from BTV-Arts Channel to Beijing Television and will be bringing Hou Ge, Hou Di, Xiao Lu, and Dafei along with him.[3] Several days later, when Beijing Television Station's public service announcement for "World No Tobacco Day" was axed, Hu Fei called Zhang Ye to ask him to help the station create a new public service announcement in 24 hours.[4]
Do You Remember Arc[]
The day after the release of the Quit Smoking PSA, Hu Fei invited Zhang Ye to have a luncheon with Beijing Television's leaders, which the latter rejected.[5] Wang Huayuan, the deputy director of the HR Department, then personally visited Zhang Ye to invite him to join BTV-1. Seeing that Zhang Ye wasn't interested in his offer, Wang Huayuan asked Hu Fei to talk to Zhang Ye.
Hu Fei tells Zhang Ye that if he comes back, it will be with their old team with Hu Fei as the executive producer and Zhang Ye as the executive director and the program will be a primetime slot at 9 PM every Friday.[6] Although Zhang Ye eventually rejected the offer, he still helped Hu Fei and his team plan a new singing program. When Zhang Ye brought up the condition that the station sign Dong Shanshan and let her be the host of the new singing program in exchange for his planning the program, Hu Fei was the first to agree, although he still had to seek approval from the upper management.[7]
After hearing Zhang Ye's concept for "Do You Remember", he felt that it is a very good proposal and different from the rest of the programs and that it would definitely stand out from the rest. They can save a lot of money since they no longer have to invite any big-name celebrities as guests and can use the money in other ways to raise the overall standard of the program.[8]
Becoming a B-list Celebrity Arc[]
During the premiere of "Do You Remember", Hu Fei arranged for Dong Shanshan to have more lines than her male hosting counterpart as a way of giving special care for her. After the episode finished airing, Zhang Ye called Hu Fei to ask about the viewership ratings.[9]
The Voice of China Arc[]
After watching Zhang Ye's advertisement segment on The Voice of China, he praised Zhang Ye and also said that although he's working at Beijing Television Station, if he had to choose the most outstanding host with the best overall abilities in the country, his vote would definitely go to Zhang Ye.
He predicted that the viewership ratings for The Voice's first episode to be 1.2%, which was very high. When Hu Fei saw the viewership ratings report for Thursday’s variety shows that was disseminated by the management, he stared at it dumbfounded for a long time. Then he quietly took a cigarette from the table beside him and lighted it even though he had already quit smoking for a long time. He took a puff from it and violently coughed and then went on to aggressively curse.
