He was one of the student recruitment teachers sent by Peking University to No. 4 High School to talk to two of the top scorers of the Beijing college entrance exams. However, they were stopped by the security guards and two of the school's teachers at the gates. They realized later that the teachers colluded with the student recruitment team of Tsinghua University.[1]
When Zhang Ye arrived at Tsinghua University, although they clashed before and he did not like Zhang Ye much, he dropped all his biases against Zhang Ye, as he knew that they needed to stand united against the common enemy. When a Tsinghua University personnel threatened to call the police if they don't leave, he retorted that Tsinghua was the one who resorted to dirty tricks to snatch the examinees away in the first place.
He was nervous and felt that the matter was getting way too far out of hand when he saw Zhang Ye continue to smash the windows of Tsinghua University's cars to free the examinees.[2] He and five teachers of the Peking University student recruitment team, along with Su Na, later decided to stay behind to help explain their side of things when the police came, while the other teachers brought the freed examinees back to Peking University to discuss with them.
When the police arrived at Tsinghua University and seeing how the Tsinghua teachers were telling their story one-sidedly, he and Su Na told the police their side of the story.
He mentioned that he thought Zhang Ye did a marvelous job when he was talking about the incident with Dean Pan and the other teachers.
