Do You Remember Arc[]

After the end of "Online Talents", she and the staff of Weiwo's program planning team came up with a few proposals for the new segment but they were all rejected by the management. The leader instead proposed for her to continue doing her original program for a second season instead. However, she wanted to take up something new for her development with a new program. Shanshan and the leader eventually fell out over this and she decided to resign and returned to her hometown.[1]

After submitting her resignation, she sent out a number of résumés to the television stations in the country who were looking to recruit television hosts. But the larger television stations and satellite channels totally ignored her, as her qualifications are too little and she is not popular enough while the smaller local television stations considered her for a position, but as they are all small local television stations that do not attract much viewership, they did not and also could not plan for a variety program, so they definitely did not require a host like her.[2]

When Zhang Ye agreed to plan a new singing program for Beijing Television, his only condition was for the station to sign Dong Shanshan and let her be the host for the program.[3] After the station agreed to Zhang Ye's request, they contacted Dong Shanshan to sign a 1+1 contract, with an annual salary of 200,000 RMB excluding bonuses, welfare, and other standard payments, and it was negotiable.[2] Although she did not know why one of the country's more reputable satellite channel station was looking for her to host a large-scale variety show at a Friday primetime slot, she still decided to go to Beijing to discuss with them no matter how ridiculous it sounded.

After signing the contract, she met the program team of "Do You Remember".[4]She initially thought that the program needed someone like her who could be a “vase” to attract the viewers, but after hearing the explanation of the whole concept of the program, she realized that the responsibilities of the host in the program turned out to be much more important than she had imagined. After a slip-of-the-tongue by Hou Ge, she correctly deduced that the reason the station looked for her to assume the important role of the female host for a large scale production was because of Zhang Ye.[5] Later that night, she called Zhang Ye to thank him for secretly helping her.[6]

She praised Zhang Ye's acting despite the story plot not being her type of show. She wonders where and how Zhang Ye learned acting when they graduated from the same class at the same school and took the same lessons. She also tells Zhang Ye that she has already recorded three episodes of "Do You Remember" and that there will be three continuous episodes for three days.[7] After the premiere of "Do You Remember", some media outlets called her a new star in the hosting world.[8]

The Voice of China Arc[]

She was the fifth person to call and ask Zhang Ye about the viewership ratings of The Voice of China. She posted on Weibo predicting that the viewership ratings for The Voice's first episode to be 1.1%, which was very high. She was shocked into silence when she saw that The Voice's first episode had a viewership rating of 2.01%.

She posted an audio clip of her trying to imitate Zhang Ye's advertising messages but it wasn't as good as Zhang Ye's and the accuracy of her pronunciation was not good either.
